Quick thoughts: Love is liberating and revolutionary. Something I read in The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf got me thinking about love, and how many marketing and advertising departments out there would like us to be closed off to it, feel unworthy of it, or feel incapable of providing it. I focus on romantic love specifically, arguing that many of our individual “problems” regarding love and intimacy are largely not personal faults but rather the natural result of a broader culture strategically planned to bring about such insecurity and dissatisfaction.

Revenge porn! Nudity! Erin comes over and we record together for the first time since the Deathcast. We talk revenge porn. What is it? Who does it? Should it be illegal? We talk about Hunter Moore‘s former website isanyoneup.com, Gawker’s unmasking of Reddit’s troll Violentacres, and revenge porn lawsuits. (Since we recorded, Refinery29, The Guardian, and Salon have written about the topic.) I bring up a nerve interview of a guy who shared revenge porn of an ex-girlfriend but regretted it after she posted revenge porn of him back and that sparks discussion on men’s ability to view things from a woman’s point of view.

We discuss our society’s hypocrisy when it comes to nudity, aka, why is a naked man silly or dumb, but a naked woman shameful? Why is toplessness nudity for females, but not for males? I argue that firing someone for having nude photos online should be illegal and considered discriminatory. We also ask, how can one go about exploring the negative effects of pornography on society without being anti-porn overall? We beg for comments, so leave one, please!

Monte refuses to tell any of his own gross stories, but he shares a few that’ve been told at I Shit You Not. I tell some gross stories of my own, including one about poop that I feel rather uncomfortable sharing even though it happened eight years ago. Monte recommends his favorite Chicago restaurants. My puppy won’t stop bothering Mike. I am having an off day so I keep talking in hopes of rectifying that and the podcast ends up being almost three hours long. At the end we attempt a prank call, but it doesn’t turn out too well. There will be a next time!

I recorded this on New Year’s Eve. If I’m remembering correctly, I was driving and talking to myself as the clock struck midnight. (Hopefully that is a signal for how the rest of 2013 will be!) I worked at Hollywood Casino handing out favors and taking photos with people for New Year’s Eve and then went to a party.

In this episode I talk about that work, the types of people you find at casinos, and about the saddest New Year’s of my life. I also talk about being hit on while promo modeling and having an unreasonable fear of the police.

I know, I know. Things are all out of order. This is the Yes, Jessica? Deathcast. Erin & I began this podcast episode last summer. We then decided to put off finishing it until one of us experienced a major death and felt more in the mood to discuss such things. I had two deaths in the family recently–one in November and one in December–so there you go. We discuss those deaths, the Sandy Hook tragedy, and deaths Erin has dealt with in the past. We try to keep levity in the conversation without making light of death. How’d we do?

I podcast with comedian Matt Drufke (@IHateMattDrufke from episode thirty-six), who recently released a comedy album, and Lewis Rhine (of Barely Watchable, from episode forty) in Matt’s home/former chicken coop. If you listen to the whole thing, you’ll find out which one of us had a threesome recently and how it went.

I’ve been making friends with strangers. We discuss following back on twitter. (I’m against it.) We confront Lewis for kind of/sort of/almost quitting comedy and it turns into a discussion on comedy in general, past drama in the Chicago stand-up scene, and Matt having a shot glass thrown at him while he was on stage. Gangstas are on twitter. Over 400 people have been murdered in Chicago this year. They talk about the Oscars and I don’t know what’s going on. I yelled “Nice pants!” out of my car window at a guy in American flag pants and he clearly didn’t appreciate the compliment. Michael Jackson, pedophiles, the pedophile list. Have you ever fallen asleep on the floor and woken up getting your dick sucked? Would you rather sleep in a coffin or on the floor? Sensory deprivation tank talk. Should women approach men? Matt loves Chuck Klosterman and I don’t so we go back and forth about that.

Erin & I podcast for the first time in months! Woo hoo! Erin’s in love with Tori Spelling or something. It’s better to drink tap water than keep using an old Brita filter that is already expired. Erin wants to talk politics and my voice becomes morose almost immediately. She thinks Republicans are a joke; I think the United States of America is a joke. I’ve become more apathetic over the years and Erin’s started to care more. We both think Obama will win. He’s cooler. I’m sad our country keeps murdering people. Erin wants to pay more taxes. We talk healthcare. I reminisce about my first federal election in which I voted for Ralph Nader. I still agree with his assessment of the “Demicans” and “Republicrats” twelve years later. Is abortion an issue politicians actually care about, or do they just use that to keep people arguing and distracted from other issues? I don’t believe in a government-sanctioned marriage. Slavery still exists–the slaves just don’t live here. “Every country is a gang. We’re indoctrinated to think ours is the right one.” We live in a world full of gangs. Remember the Pledge of Allegiance?

After we stopped recording we continued talking about drug laws, the insane murder rate in Chicago this year, animal/food issues, and more. Maybe next time we’ll record that stuff.

I’m sure some dudes out there have wondered what goes through a female’s mind when she meets a cute guy. While, here’s your chance to hear it first-hand! I (neurotically?) ramble while driving from an event at which I met (but did not obtain the contact information of) a guy I felt chemistry with. (Also I won 120 bottles of pop at that event.) I was beating myself up over the fact that we didn’t exchange info, and wondering aloud whether or not I should’ve just made the move and asked him for his number.

This experience spurred a change in me and I now make the first move with dudes whenever I feel like it. What a difference a month can make! I wrote an article about the topic and everything. Check it out: Why you should make the first move.

The venerable blogger Tony Pierce and I recorded this a way long time ago when he was in Chicago. Like, an entire month ago! I kept thinking I wouldn’t post it until I listened to it so I could write an accurate description, but after a month of being non-stop busy I am giving up and writing this instead! I remember talking about Adam Carolla’s comment about women not being funny. I remember talking about blogs and blogging. I remember getting drunk off of only 2.5 Old Styles and Tony asking me personal questions and interrupting to say,”This is an exclusive!” I don’t remember much else, but there must be a lot because this is long!
